Romero Britto Inspired Hearts
1st graders learned about modern artist, Romero Britto. He is known for his bright colors and patterns, as well as a lot of shapes!. Students began by tracing a large heart and dividing the heart into smaller shapes using lines, inspired by Britto. Next, they used a bingo dauber filled with ink to trace over the lines and add pattern to each section they created. This created a thick black line just like in Britto's work.

Next, students added bright bold colors using two different materials: neon tempera cakes for the inside of the heart, and a bleeding tissue paper technique on the outside. The result is so colorful and beautiful!
Royal Self-Portraits
1st graders have started these self-portraits, by mixing their unique skin tone with a limited pallet of paint colors. The next step was to draw their facial features, including those beautiful smiles (missing teeth and all!).

Next, students added hair (mixing their unique hair color from the limited paint pallet again), and starting their crown by tracing, cutting, and painting gold or silver. After adding a cool color OR warm color background, 1st graders added their crowns and royal clothing to complete their portraits.
Pumpkins
1st graders learned so much during this project! First, they looked at real pumpkins and then drew one, trying to make it as realistic as possible. Then, we mixed our primary colors to paint our pumpkins (yellow+red=orange) and leaves (yellow+blue=green). Finally, they cut and glued their pumpkins to black paper, adding details and highlights with white chalk. The final product is beautiful!
